New legislation was passed to prohibit the the public from appealing the creation of new shelters as long as the shelters meet the baseline building and zoning requirements. This law was passed because there is a dire need for more shelters, and yet there are people who do everything in their power to prevent them from being built. Some San Francisco residents even started a GoFundMe page to raise money to hire a lawyer and sue the city so that they wouldn’t build a new homeless shelter in Embarcadero.
