About Us

The Bill Sorro Housing Program (BiSHoP) is a unique housing service center inspired by the life and work of Bill Sorro. Bill was a human rights advocate, trade unionist, community organizer, and native San Franciscan. BiSHoP provides housing services such as housing application assistance, tenant’s rights counseling, and tenant advocacy for low to moderate income individuals. Our clients are immigrants, veterans, seniors, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+, and members of other marginalized communities.

Outreach Volunteer

Overview

Outreach volunteers will assist the Outreach Coordinator in implementing outreach strategies in order to promote BiSHoP services and available affordable housing opportunities to target populations. This is a hybrid position (around 60% in-person, 40% virtual) beginning in December 2024.

Duties include, but are not limited to

  • Conduct literature drop-offs to local businesses and community partners

  • Create outreach materials (including flyers, graphics, and videos), and provide assistance with social media accounts

  • Attend and represent BiSHoP at community events, meetings, rallies. 

  • Provide communications support to help maintain relationships with potential clients at community events.

Additional Details

  • Strong people skills required

  • Bilingual English-Spanish, English-Arabic, or bilingual English-Tagalog preferred, but not required. 

  • Availability to volunteer on weekends highly desired

Time Commitment: 1-2 hours per week, 4 months minimum, starting December 2024
