About Us

The Bill Sorro Housing Program (BiSHoP) is a unique housing service center inspired by the life and work of Bill Sorro. Bill was a human rights advocate, trade unionist, community organizer, and native San Franciscan. BiSHoP provides housing services such as housing application assistance, tenant’s rights counseling, and tenant advocacy for low to moderate income individuals. Our clients are immigrants, veterans, seniors, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+, and members of other marginalized communities.

Outreach & ADVOCACY Volunteer

Overview: 

We are building a team of Outreach & Advocacy Volunteers to raise in-person awareness of housing services, opportunities, and workshops across different San Francisco neighborhoods each month. This is an in-person position with flexible hours.

Duties include, but are not limited to: 

● Conducting literature drop-offs to businesses, housing complexes, and community partners.
● Calling clients via phone for upcoming appointments or opportunities.
● Supporting designs of flyers, graphics, and/or videos related to affordable housing.
● Attending community tabling events, meetings, or rallies with BiSHoP

Additional Details: 

● Strong interpersonal skills desired
● Bilingual English-Spanish, English-Arabic, or bilingual English-Tagalog preferred, but not required. 
● Availability during Tuesday afternoons and some weekends desired
