About Us

The Bill Sorro Housing Program (BiSHoP) is a housing non-profit inspired by the life and work of Bill Sorro - a human rights advocate, trade unionist, community organizer, and native San Franciscan. BiSHoP provides housing services such as housing application assistance, tenant’s rights counseling, and tenant advocacy for low to moderate income individuals. Our clients are immigrants, veterans, seniors, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+, and members of other marginalized communities.

Direct Services VolunteeR

Overview:
Direct services volunteers will assist the staff in completing clients’ housing applications, and developing and translating educational resources.
This is a hybrid position (can be fully in-person, fully virtual, or a mix)

Duties include, but are not limited to

  • Assisting clients and staff at in-person workshops and events.

  • Help submit DAHLIA housing applications on behalf of clients facing technology or language barriers

  • Assist in the development of educational resources for clients.

  • Translating written materials into Arabic, Tagalog, or Spanish (priority - Arabic)

Additional Details

  • Proficiency in Google G Suite required 

  • Bilingual English-Spanish or Bilingual English-Tagalog preferred, but not required.

  • Familiarity with SF affordable housing landscape/DAHLIA preferred, but not required

  • Availability on weekday evenings highly desired

Time Commitment: 2-5 hours per week, 4 months minimum
