BiSHoP April Event Highlights

BiSHoP joins the People’s Budget Rally (4/17) to voice concerns about budget cuts to community support.

April was an exciting month for BiSHoP, packed with events, workshops, and advocacy efforts aimed at supporting various communities in San Francisco. Here’s a look!

4/6 - SOMA Safety Fair

BiSHoP met with members of the SOMA community to celebrate safety and our mutual devotion to the diverse population of San Francisco.

In this event, hosted by the San Francisco Community Youth Center, SOMCAN, SOMA Pilipinas, and the Filipino Service Providers Network, members of the SOMA community gathered for a day of celebration, performances, food, and connection at the Kapwa Gardens.

In an era seemingly marked by division and conflict, we were more than happy to join our community in a united celebration of safety, diversity, and pride for culture and the SOMA district.

4/6 - SOMACC Multicultural Fest

On the same day, BiSHoP team members also tabled at this annual celebration of diversity, allowing us to provide SOMA community members with the opportunity to speak directly with our housing case managers about pressing housing issues.

Hosted by South of Market Child Care, Inc (SOMACC), our team visited attendees at the Yerba Buena Gardens to raise awareness of our programs and methods of support, including 1:1 housing counseling and tenants’ rights advocacy.

Surrounded by cultural music, dancing, henna artists, and face painting, the BiSHoP team was proud to bring its multicultural support to this celebration of diversity.

4/17 - San Francisco People’s Budget Rally

At the steps of San Francisco City Hall, BiSHoP joined over 40 community organizations to protest potential budget cuts that put essential services like housing for the city's most vulnerable populations at risk.

Here, we stood with speakers like Maria Zamudio, Director of the Housing Rights Committee Of San Francisco, who reminded us:
"Our families are choosing between rent, food, or medicine... We need the city to show us that in their budget priorities."

With the welfare of the city’s low-income populations on the line, BiSHoP is rising with community organizers to advocate for the protection of services that keep families living without the constant fear of homelessness.

Throughout April - Arabic & Tagalog Housing Workshops

In collaboration with Self-Help for the Elderly, BiSHoP hosted a series of informative housing workshops for Arabic and Tagalog speakers.

Thanks to the dedicated work of our multilingual staff of housing case managers, we were able to deliver affordable housing support to over 35 community members.

Topics covered included housing terminology, an overview of the DAHLIA affordable housing portal, explanations about San Francisco’s housing lottery system, and opportunities for affordable housing that are opening this year.

We’re excited to continue delivering affordable housing workshops like these, so stay tuned for updates regarding future workshops and events for the community!

4/20 - Tenderloin Eid Celebration

To celebrate the Eid holiday with members of our community, BiSHoP tabled at the Tenderloin Eid Celebration, greeting guests with housing information and programs.

This celebration, which spanned the 500 block of Ellis Street, brought families and community organizations together for a day of cultural joy & remembrance.

In support of the Arabic-speaking members of our community, our Arabic-speaking case managers were present and able to connect with residents and community organizers to raise awareness of affordable housing opportunities in San Francisco.

4/27 - Healing Through Housing Annual Event

At this housing-themed event, organized by Red de Recursos Humanos, Familiares de la Mission, the Native American Health Center and La Raza Community Center, BiSHoP joined several community organizers to deliver affordable housing information and tenant support to San Francisco residents in need.

BiSHoP was extremely happy to be a part of an event that recognized the importance of housing non-profits in a city of diverse individuals struggling to make ends meet to keep a roof above their heads.

In addition, BiSHoP held its 3 monthly DAHLIA workshops, inviting various San Francisco residents to bring their questions and concerns about affordable housing to receive direct 1:1 support from our dedicated team of bilingual case managers. We hope you join us in future events and workshops that support our community.
