About Us
The Bill Sorro Housing Program (BiSHoP) is a unique housing service center inspired by the life and work of Bill Sorro. Bill was a human rights advocate, trade unionist, community organizer, and native San Franciscan. BiSHoP provides housing services such as housing application assistance, tenant’s rights counseling, and tenant advocacy for low to moderate income individuals. Our clients are immigrants, veterans, seniors, people with disabilities, LGBTQ+, and members of other marginalized communities.
Advocacy Volunteer
Overview:
Advocacy volunteers will help BiSHoP garner voter support for affordable housing ballot measures in the upcoming November 2024 election. This is a hybrid position (around 60% in-person, 40% virtual) that will begin in early September.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
● Attending trainings on conducting outreach and understanding the SF affordable housing landscape
● Conduct literature drop-offs to local businesses and community partners
● Phone banking and door knocking
● Create outreach materials (including flyers, graphics, and videos), and provide assistance with social media accounts on matters related to affordable housing ballot measures
● Attend and represent BiSHoP at community events, meetings, rallies.
Additional Details:
Strong people skills required
Bilingual English-Spanish, English-Arabic, or bilingual English-Tagalog preferred, but not required.
Availability during Thursday late afternoons and some weekends desired
Time Commitment: 1-3 hours per week, 2 months minimum, starting September 2024
